In 2006 Amanda Johnston launched an on-line journal called TORCH: poetry, prose, and short stories by African American Women. Since then, the journal as received hundreds of submissions and continues to grow with each issue. Long-term goals for TORCH include anthologies, writing workshops, and meaningful collaborations with artists and organizations that seek to empower African American women writers.

 

TAPPco       As an original ensemble member of The Austin Project Performance Company, Johnston creates in community with other women writers, scholars, and artists of color and allies. Together, they draw on blood memories and shared experiences through the jazz esthetic to develop stage productions that engage audiences in social arts activism. TAPPco is an extension of The Austin Project.
